Abstract

In this research, have been studied marine algae in the upper infralittoral zone of the Bosphorus coasts of İstanbul (including Bosphorus) . A total of 244 taxon have been determined. 11 of them belong to blue-green bacteria (Cyanophyta), 127 to red algae (Rhodophyta), 46 to brown algae (Heterokontophyta), 60 to green algae (Chlorophyta) and 2 to flowering plants (Tracheophyta).

OIL POLLUTION OF GOLDEN HORN SEAWATER

Abstract

The oil pollution was investigated in Golden Horn in February, April and May 2005. The analysis was made by ultraviolet fluorospectrophotometer and gas chromatography – mass spectrometer. The maximum oil pollution was found in the seawater under Haliç Bridge 174.50 µg/L in 04/2005, 130.50 µg/L in 05/2005, in the seawater under Unkapanı Bridge 104.90 µg/L in 02/2005 and in the seawater under Galata Bridge 56.45 µg/L in 05/2005. Many linear aliphatic (C8-C44), (C5, C14, C24 derivates), cycloalkane and alkene (C11-C16) were detected. Aromatics 1-ring (benzene derivatives), 2-rings, benzofuran, 3-rings (anthracene, phenantrene) were identified by GC/MS analysis.

Abstract

In this investigation, the presence and the distribution of the blue-green algae; Cyanophyeae, 20 taxa, red algae; Rhodophyceae, 106 taxa, one of them is new record for the Blacksea shore of Turkey, Gelidium pusillum (Stackhouse) Le Jolis var. pusillum brown algae; Fucophyceae, 27 taxa, green algae; Chlorophyceae, 21 taxa, and seagrasses, 2 taxa were identified in the upper infralittoral zone of Samsun (Black Sea) shore of Turkey. A total 176 taxon was determined.

Ecological risk assessment to populations of small benthic Crustaceans

Abstract

Small benthic crustaceans are considered in comparison to large ones as the most vulnerable in relation to injurious effects according to proposed by us criteria of “critical” populations (species) identification. Experimental cytogenetic data on enfluence of different mutagene equivalent doses of ionising radiation and chemical mutagens (i.e. doses inducing equal mean number of cells with chromosome aberration in %) on Gammarus olivii and Idothea balticaposterity are analized and compared with results of cytogenetic analysis of natural crustacian populations. For the assessment of specimens reproductive contribution and effective population size (i.e. number of specimens determing genetic structure of next posterities) a number of embryos with spontaneous chromosome mutagenesis (up to 2% of cells with chromosome aberrations) is used as a criterion of postery of full value. It is concluded that cytogenetic analysis of female posterity allows to assess expected reduction of population adaptive possibiliity and ecological risk.

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the ichthyofauna of Kemer reservoir and Akçay stream. As a result of examining the samples collected between December 2004 and June 2006, it was revealed that 15 fish species, belonging to 6 families, were found in the basin of Kemer reservoir and Akçay stream. Among these, Lepomis gibbosus, Silurus glanis, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Carassius gibelio and hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops & Morone saxatilis) are alien species. Three species, Petroleuciscus smyrnaeus, Alburnoides bipunctatus, and Oncorhynchus mykiss were recorded for the first time from the Kemer reservoir and Akçay stream.

Abstract

The first record of the Viperfish Chauliodus sloani, with morphometric and meristic characteristics, in Turkish waters of Levant Sea are reported. One specimen was caught in a trawl on 26 April 2004 at a depth of ca. 400 m in (36°02′- 36°05′ N, 35°37′ – 35°29′ E). The specimen is the first sample which is caught of this species from Levant Sea.

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the crab species existing found in the Edremit Bay and some of their ecological properties. Samples were collected from 46 stations between the years 2001-2003, at 0.5-75 m depths, by using scoop net, dredge, beam-trawl and trammel net. A total of 40 crab species belonging to 16 families were identified during the course of this study. Primary hydrographic conditions, such as temperature (13-29 ˚C), salinity (35.3-38.9 ‰) and dissolved oxygen (2.76-9.82 mg l-1) were recorded for each sampling.
